The best fuel tracker apps in 2026, compared honestly

There is no single best fuel tracker app; there is a best one for how you drive, what you want free, and which features you will actually use. This comparison covers five apps that come up most often, Fuelio, Drivvo, Simply Auto, Fuelly and our own AutoVault, using only what their public App Store listings say on 24 October 2026. Where our app is weaker, the table says so. Prices vary by country and change often; treat them as indicative.

The short version

• You want everything free, no ads, with receipt scanning and sync: AutoVault. It lacks export and expense categories beyond fuel and service.
• You want the widest feature set and do not mind a subscription: Fuelio. Receipt scanning, reminders and expenses are Premium; CSV export and bi-fuel are included.
• You earn with your vehicle or run a small fleet: Drivvo. Income tracking, many expense types, a web system; free tier is two vehicles with ads.
• You need GPS trip logging for business mileage: Simply Auto. Trips, CSV export and a web portal; sync and ad removal are paid.
• You want to compare your MPG with other owners of the same model: Fuelly. Community data from Fuelly.com; English-only.

What to look for, whichever you choose

Logging speed. The feature that decides whether you still have a log in six months. Receipt scanning or a four-field form you can complete at the pump in under twenty seconds.

Full-fill fuel economy. The app should calculate economy only between full fills and show it per fill and as a trend. Apps that average everything produce a number that drifts.

Per-vehicle units and currency. Especially if you have a two-wheeler and a car, or an imported car in miles. Entries should keep the unit they were logged in.

Reminders that reach you. A next-service date that becomes a notification, not a field you have to remember to look at.

Where the data lives. On the device with a backup you manage, or in an account that syncs. The second survives a lost phone without you doing anything; the first gives you a file you control. Know which you are getting.

Export. If you expect to analyse the data yourself or move apps later, check the export story before you commit years of entries. This is the item we are weakest on today and it is on our roadmap.

Dual fuel. If you run petrol+CNG, make sure the app treats it as two tanks. Most do not.
