Know your vehicle's real fuel economy

Fuel economy is the distance a vehicle travels on a unit of fuel: kilometres per litre, miles per gallon, or litres per 100 km. The app calculates it from your own fill-ups rather than the manufacturer's brochure figure, then turns it into cost per kilometre and monthly spend so you can see how driving, traffic and maintenance change what the vehicle costs to run.

How the number is calculated

The reliable method is the tankful method: fill the tank, note the odometer, drive, fill it again and note the odometer. Distance divided by the fuel added on the second fill is your fuel economy for that stretch. The app does this automatically for every pair of fill-ups and shows the per-fill figure on each log entry and the trend on the dashboard.

Partial fill-ups are fine to log; the economy figure is simply shown for spans between full fills, which keeps it honest.

Which unit you see

Each vehicle has its own fuel-economy format. India, and most of Asia and Latin America, use km/L (often just called the car's "average" in India). The United States and the United Kingdom use miles per gallon, with different gallon sizes, and Europe and Australia use L/100km, where lower is better. The app supports all of them per vehicle.

From economy to cost

Fuel economy alone does not tell you what the vehicle costs. The dashboard shows monthly fuel spend grouped by currency, service spend from the service log, a month-on-month comparison chart and a breakdown of fuel expense by vehicle. Cost per kilometre on each fill-up makes it easy to compare a CNG tank against a petrol tank, or a scooter against a car, on the only number that matters at the pump.

Try the calculation

Enter the distance since your last full fill and the fuel it took to fill up again. Add a price to see cost per distance. The app records these for every fill-up automatically.

FAQ

Fuel economy and running cost: questions

How does the app calculate fuel economy?

From two consecutive full fill-ups: the distance between the two odometer readings divided by the fuel added on the second fill. The result is shown on each fuel log entry and as a trend on the dashboard.

Can I see fuel economy in mpg instead of km/L?

Yes. Each vehicle has its own fuel-economy format: km/L, miles per US gallon, miles per UK gallon or L/100km.

What is a car's "average"?

In India, a car's average means its fuel economy in kilometres per litre. The app shows this figure for every fill-up and as a trend over time.

Does the app show cost per kilometre?

Yes. Every fuel log entry shows the cost per kilometre or mile for that stretch, and the dashboard shows monthly spend per vehicle.
